Champion Sip/Roger Touhy with Runner-up PJ and Ryan
Roger Touhy and Sip win Senior/Junior BBT DoublesTo keep the BBT fresh, mastermind, Reinfart/Ritti keep coming up with new ideas and Wednesday we had the first Senior/Junior doubles tournament. In my opinion, it was a big success. We had 18 bowlers that were split into age groups, (older/younger) and then split the field and randomly picked names to pair up everyone.
There were some great match-ups. New bowler and former team-mate Roger Touhy with Sip, Dan and Kevin (fixed?), Andy and Tittie (fixed?) all shot a 2 game qualifier. Once again, in true BBT style, we had a tie for the final semi-final spot. Gimena and Lou tied with PJ and Ryan with 932 each and had a 9/10th frame roll-off. Spotting 5 pins put Lou and Tommy in a dilemma but, with PJ as an opponent…anything can happen…unfortunately for the 1973 Champ, Gimena opened the 9th, and Lou chickenwinged it real good and went on the Ovaries and 8/spared. In the 10th, Ryan doubled and we needed PJ to spank it to give the 1973 champ a chance…he leaves the 1/2/4/8…and picks it up…ouch, and they advanced.
Here are the qualifying scores:
Mike D and Battersby led qualifying, both shooting well, but with a 244/237 start…they were in good shape. Roger and Sip, pounded the pee out of the pins the second game with 248/244 scratch to move into 2nd, Reinfart shot 269 the second game to power them into 3rd and Ryan/PJ, Lou/Gimena had a comedy of errors in the second game, (I will spare you the details) to tie with Ryan/PJ winning the roll-off.
Not qualifying were 1973 Champ/Gimena, Andy/Mike R, Justine/Waz, Dennis/Kenny and Rob D and Alex. I have to admit…some pretty cool match-ups…
Semi-Finals – Roger/Sip versus Dan/Reinfart – what a classic match-up, easily the best match of the year on paper. Was close, but Dan missed a few 10 pins and left a lot of them to doom their chances. In the other match PJ…yes PJ was the star picking up the 5-7 in the 10th to seal the victory…how cool was that?
Congrats to Dan/Kevin and Mike D and Battersby who all shot great.
Championship Match – The match was close early on, but the chances of Ryan/PJ beating Sip/Roger was, well lets see…-0%, -00000%, -0000000000%...you get the idea. See, I bowled with Roger on his team and he is a Great clutch bowler…and Sip, who continues to impress the blogmaster with his great mental game and if I was a betting man…The bottom line in the end, Roger shot 245 and Sip 220 to win the match by 32 pins.
I think this format was great…lots of fun, great camaraderie and a real success. The BBT continues with a standard singles format 2/11/09.
Wednesday League Wrap-up
Congrats to Instant Results - Slater/Slater, Fritz, Kurz, Gary Benjamin, Matt Jenital, won the 2nd 3rd beating the fine team of Al Rickert and company. It could have been a three way tie...but it was not to be.
