Sip is all Educated , runs the field and wins his first BBT Title of the Year

Runner-up Ryan with BBT Champ Sip

Wednesday was the biggest regular season BBT ever with 17 bowlers shooting in a 2 game qualifier. Three new faces, 2 women, 2 over 50 grey head and salt and pepper head, and a bunch of regulars missing…so we could have really set a record if everyone showed up…but 17 was great.

I really like the game that Sip has, he doesn't get rattled, is excellent in the clutch and it really showed yesterday as he breezed to victory. His closest match was 22 pins against Grandpa D, so I would call that a breeze, how about a slight breeze. Ryan U, in his first BBT, is greatly improved from the Summer and shot quite well, qualifying 4th, crushed 3 time champ Paul, had a great match with Mike Ritti, then crushed Gimena before losing to Sip. Here is how it all played out:

Sip eliminated Sarah is a boring game as did Reinfart of Wazy and Dennis of Andy. Ryan pounded the wee out of Paul Bober 231/270 to 186/185. And Mike R and Gimena had a great match as Tittie just threw the ball in the fill frame leaving a 7 count and Gimena snuck in to beat him 230/228. Lucky for Tittie, he was the biggest loser and moved on.

Quarterfinals – Gimena put fast work to Reinfart 237/205, while Dennis had one too many thigh slappers, (soft 10's plus a few 7's, 8's, 9's, 4s, etc.) that poor guy needs to just throw the ball and what happens happens. He is not 25 any more and you are NOT going to carry like you used too…period….and lost to Sip 253/231 and Mike and Ryan tied at 244 in a great match and Mike moves on as the biggest loser again.

Semi-Finals – Sip and Ryan mowed through their opponents in matches that were out quite quickly, with Sip winning 208/215 to 173/191 over Tittie and Ryan pounded Gimena 222/261 to 165/194. More action at the bar than on the lanes…but every week can't be a big thrill.

Championship Match – Now Sip has won before last year and this was Ryans first title match, so the odds on favorite was Sip…but since Ryan shot so well Wednesday…who knows…well, it was over soon as the cool, cool customer Sip put it to Ryan 247/254 to 180/219 for his first BBT win of the year and a pretty good pile of beans.

Great week, welcome to Pat King, Ryan and Battersby…glad to have some new blood

, both young and old. Welcome to you guys and best of luck in the weeks to come.

So long to Sarah…who goes back to school…you will be missed as you are a great bowler, a fiery competitor and such a lovely young lady.

The BBT continues next week with perhaps a shorter format. It is being worked on now. If you have any thoughts, please post them.

  4. Congrats to Sip! And to Ryan as well...crossed with both in qualifying and struggled to keep up with these boys. Gosh, the college kids are good. :-)

In answer to Lou's question, I would be very interested in a slightly shorter format to the BBT. I love bowling, but getting done after 1:30am really puts a damper on getting up in the morning. Ok for the college kids...bad for us "old" guys in our thirties!

    THANKS!
    Paul

  5. We could use the same formats, but choose a different day(sometimes)so we could start earlier. Of course, only if everybody could make it.
