Paul Bober shoots 300 and 802 in qualifying to Win First BBT Title

Champion Paul Bober and Runner-up Mike Delmonico
Paul Bober broke every BBT record last night shooting 300 his first game then 268 and 234 for an 802 series during qualifying and then shot 258 to win his first BBT Title beating Mike Delmonico 258/263 to 220/246.

Now I have seen thousands of games at River Rand Bowl...and a few 300's...but Bober just kept striking and striking and striking, putting on a very impressive display.

Now Mike D., who made his first finals ever, was no chump, shooting 220 on a very, very tough condition.  And that makes Bober's night even more impressive.  Some lanes were fried and others tight...so I guess he is just plain good.

Here is how it played out:

Qualifying:  We shot 2 games of qualifying, the field was cut to 6 (normally 5 but there was a tie and we allowed 6 to move on to a one game match with the top 2 moving on the the finals.

Bober led qualifiers by almost 100 pins for 2 games...wow.

Welcome to new bowlers Jack W. Jim, Dan L. and it was nice to see Justine again.  Our sole female bowler so far this year.

Semi Finals:   Delmonico put a little water on the Bober Fire shooting 217/243 to edge out Paul in the semi finals.  The match was close until about the 8th frame when Mike D. put the pedal to the metal and threw a bunch of strikes to put it to bed.  Advantage to Mike D. in that he could pick the pair for the finals.  He made the obvious choice to put Bober on the pair he just beat him...but...

Great night, new BBT members and an awesome display by Paul Bober.  By the way...we had over 5 regulars missing Wednesday, so next week should be our largest turnout of the year.

  3. I thought the lanes weren't real tough, but I don't think they were as easy as some of the scores that were being shot. A lot of good games, and close, interesting matches. Congrats Paul and a hell of a fight Mike.
